Visiting Kasteel de Haar

I recently organized a photography tour of Kasteel de Haar (De Haar Castle) with a group of photographers based in Utrecht. We went on a gorgeous fall day; we really lucked out with the weather. This amazingly beautiful castle was restored in the late 1800s by the architect Pierre Cuypers who also built Amsterdam Central Station and the Rijksmuseum. It is located just outside of Utrecht, and accessible by car, bike and public transport. We met up and took the bus out to the countryside admiring the cows, sheep and birds enjoying the fields. Below is a selection of the photos taken that day.

The Jacarandas of Buenos Aires photo show lives on

The Jacarandas of Buenos Aires photo show lives on, and in a couple of different ways!!

First, Juan Pablo and Malena have finished the video of the opening at the Botanical Gardens and put together a lovely video from early November. I’m not one to judge as I’m a bit biased, but I think it’s absolutely wonderful! It sets the conditions for joy and energy of the day, full of art, flowers, children and friendship. Please enjoy the video below:

Second, I have been asked by a new LGBT cultural center here in Argentina to host the show for a couple of weeks at the end of the year, so there will be another inauguration tonight December 22 (7-11 PM) at Feliza, which is located at Av. Córdoba 3271, Buenos Aires. If you are in Buenos Aires, please come on by!

Interview by BCN Radio about the Jacarandas

The last week of the Jacaranda photo exhibition at the Botanical Gardens, I had the honor to be interviewed by the radio of the National Congressional Library of Argentina. I have put together a video from the interview with photos by myself and Ariel Kanterewicz (from the exhibition opening) with subtitles so that both English and Spanish speakers alike can enjoy the interview. As noted in this video, I have been asked by a new LGBT cultural center here in Argentina to host the show for a couple of weeks at the end of the year, so there will be another inauguration on December 22 (7-11 PM) at Feliza. Successful opening and a bit of press

The show had quite a successful opening on Saturday November 4th with some 50-60 people in attendance. The day was bright and cheerful, the crowd was interested and interesting and the photos all looked great hung up on the walls. I know that several friends have been during this past week as well and have all sent really positive feedback.

My friend Ariel K was on hand and took some lovely photos. I have linked to the album on FB and included some photos below. Juan Pablo and Malena were also on hand to take video of the opening and also the day before they took some of the mounting of the photos. When that is ready to show, I’ll send out another update.

Clarin, one of the daily newspapers here in Buenos Aires, just published an article about the jacarandas of Buenos Aires and included a quote from me and a bit about the show which was very nice of them.

Jacaranda Photography Exhibition

Through the generous sponsorship of friends, family, and fans via the wildly successful IndieGoGo campaign, more than enough funds were raised to mount the photo exhibition of my collection of photos of Jacarandas of Buenos Aires at the Jardín Botánico of Buenos Aires. With the sponsorship of the Marcelo Gurruchaga Espacio Fotográfico, the Jardín Botánico and the IndieGoGo campaign, this series of Jacaranda photos will be on exhibition during the month of November, when the Jacarandas themselves will be in bloom all throughout the city.

This is my second solo exhibition at the Jardín Botánico and it will run from November 4 until November 26, with an opening reception on Saturday, November 4 from 12-2pm. I hope readers can make it to the opening, and if not then, please stop by the gardens throughout the month and have a peak in the main brick building at the exhibition. The exhibit is open to the public on Tuesdays to Fridays from 8:00 to 18:45 and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 to 18:45.

Incredibly, the fundraising goal for the IndieGoGo campaign was met by over 200%. The extra funds will allow me to hire a videographer for the event, and publish a limited edition of my photo book “Seasons of Buenos Aires”, which shows the life cycle of the city’s trees through each season of the year. I plan to have the bilingual books available in Argentina by the end of the year, so stay tuned for more news!

IndieGoGo Campaign for Jacaranda Photo Exhibition

If you have ever been lucky enough to be in Buenos Aires in November, you can’t have failed to notice the Jacarandas and their purple flowers. I immigrated to Argentina in 2006, immediately fell in love with the beauty of the trees here, and now have a collection of photographs spanning more than 10 years. This November, there will be an exhibition at the Jardín Botánico of Buenos Aires of my series of photos of the Jacaranda trees that grace the streets, plazas and parks of Buenos Aires. Twelve beautiful canvas prints will be displayed at the the same time as these trees will be Mommy and me dresses blooming all around this beautiful city. I have launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funds to pay for this exhibition and to be a way for my extended family, friends, and maybe even some fans of my work to participate in this exhibition from both near and afar with both financial and emotional support. I am humbled and blown away by the support thus far! Thank you!

Stevenson Alumni Artists Showcase 2017

Jacarandas of Plaza San Martin in Buenos Aires by Beatrice Murch

The Robert Louis Stevenson School is hosting its Reunion Weekend June 9-11, 2017 and one of the events therein is the Stevenson Alumni Artists Showcase with a reception on Friday June 9th. Fourteen alumni artists, representing a wide variety of mediums, will show over twenty pieces of artwork at the Treasure Room on the Pebble Beach Campus. Some of the works will be for sale, including a photo of mine of from the upcoming show at the Buenos Aires Botanical Gardens: Jacarandas of the Plazas of Buenos Aires. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Stevenson Fund.

I wish that I could be there in person, but as I’m far away in Buenos Aires, I’m glad that at least a part of my artistic endeavors will be available for people to see in person. Would love to hear reports back if you made it there.

E-session with Erica and Santos

Thursday afternoon, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with Erica and Santos for their photo shoot at one of my absolute favorite places in Buenos Aires: Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays in Palermo. We wandered around the garden for a couple of hours as the two love-birds enjoyed the surroundings and each other. Their playful spirit and their love for each other made it simple to capture in the photographs. I look forward to shooting their wedding in February – it should be a blast!

The Tipa trees of Buenos Aires

I have just received wonderful news that the Athena Educational Trust will be funding my photography show “Tipas Porteñas” at the Buenos Aires Botanical Gardens. The show will open on November 21 and run through December 11. Spring will have sprung in all her glory and the Tipa trees will have small yellow blossoms dotting the branches. In conjunction with the show, I will be working with Ambientate Argentina and neighborhood environmental gropus to plant trees on the streets of Buenos Aires around Arbol Day (September 21st), continuing the legacy Sr. Carlos Thays started over one hundred years ago. This project has bloomed more that I could ever have hoped for and I look forward to producing these events.

Tigre Delta in the New York Times

Two weeks ago, I was asked by the New York Times to cover a photo shoot about Tigre, a town about an hour north of Buenos Aires. I jumped at the chance and spent the weekend covering a range of subjects and meeting some very interesting people. The article was written by Michael Luongo, who I look forward to catching up with upon my return from the states later in December. This was my first commission from them and I hope more will follow (but my second time being published in the paper).
